Licensed Child Care
We are located within 26 Durham District School Board schools, serving Pickering, Claremont, Ajax, Whitby, Brooklin Village and Oshawa. We offer full-day licensed childcare for infant, toddler, and preschool children (12-month), licensed before and after-school programs for kindergarten and school-age children (10 months), and full-day licensed summer programs for kindergarten and school age children. Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham complies with the regulations set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act, and Durham Region Public Health. All licensed childcare programs align with the How Does Learning Happen? Framework – Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
Licensed Home Child Care
Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham is licensed by the Ministry of Education to provide support, oversight, and regulatory compliance monitoring to 25 licensed home childcare programs across Durham Region. In addition to the annual licensing visits from the Ministry of Education, Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham conducts monthly monitoring visits and quarterly health and safety monitoring visits on each licensed home. Licensed home childcare providers are required to comply with the regulations set out in the LHCC Child Care and Early Years Act.
Summer Camp
Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham offers recreaitonal summer camp experiences for children 6-14 years of age. Currently there are two locations – Claremont Nature Centre and Captain Michael VandenBos Public School. The program offered at Claremont is a traditional outdoor camp experience that allows children to explore and learn about the natural environment. The program for older campers focusses on developing leadership skills. The program offered at Captain Michael VandenBos offers an introductory sport program for younger campers (6-8), and a sport development program for older campers (9-12) Busing services and before and licensed before and after-camp programs are offered to meet the needs of busy families.
