The Position
Reporting to the Supervisor of Camp and Community Development, the summer camp director is responsible for providing leadership to all operational aspects of the camp program. The summer camp director will supervise, coach, mentor and guide a team of camp counsellors while ensuring a high-quality camp experience for campers and families. This is a school-based specialty camp program offering a multi-sport program for children 6-8 years and a sport development program for youth 9-12 years.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coach, mentor and guide seasonal camp counsellors while fostering an environment where young leaders can maximize their strengths and talents.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality camp experiences that are aligned with the philosophy of SPC and deliver on the expectations of the camp curriculum.
- Recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of all children, and create an environment where participants can succeed, while ensuring a physically and psychologically safe environment for everyone
- Maintain a positive and professional approach and image with SPC colleagues, families and partners (i.e. DDSB and the TRCA)
- Adhere to the program structure and guidelines as outlined, and accesses program resources and support from the supervisor, camp, and community development
- Fully and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities, while being a positive role model and reflecting the values of the organization
- Ensure family inquiries and concerns are shared with supervisor, camp and community development to ensure prompt, professional follow up
- Attend and fully participate in all employee orientation, training and meetings as outlined

The Ideal Candidate – Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Minimum of 18 years old
- Post-Secondary enrolment in a relevant field is an asset (i.e. CYW, OCT, Recreation and Leisure, Recreation Leadership, Outdoor Education)
- A minimum of 3 years experience working in a summer camp environment
- Previous experience leading camp teams is an asset.
- Valid up to date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of contract)
- Must be able to work the entirety of the summer
