IMPORTANT

This position requires the ability to work the following shifts: 630am to 230pm, 230pm to 6:30pm and any other shift deemed necessary for operations at the discretion of the centre Supervisor.

These positions are a guaranteed 20 hours per week but require flexible scheduling.

The Role
Reporting to the Supervisor of Child Care, the Child Care Assistant is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program.  Working as part of a team, the Child Care Assistant will develop and implement programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families, maintain professional relationships, and adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act.

The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor of Child Care, the Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program.  With a sound knowledge of child development, the Registered Early Childhood Educator will develop and implement programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families and the community, maintain professional relationships, uphold professional standards, and adhere to all regulations that pertain to the Registered Early Childhood Educator and the delivery of licensed childcare. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all children and families are provided with a high-quality childcare experience, and provides ongoing support to families as needed
  • Recognizes and celebrates the uniqueness of all children, builds rapport, and manages group behaviour while ensuring a physically and psychologically safe environment
  • Plans and implements a play-based program that is responsive to the observed interests and developmental needs of the children, while integrating the Provincial framework “How Does Learning Happen?”
  • Utilizes Storypark® to convey the experience, development and learning of children in the program. Completes all required documentation of children’s development and interactions
  • Adheres to all requirements outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), and all SPC Policies and Procedures
  • Acts with integrity and adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice(College of Early Childhood Educators) within their workplace and the community
  • Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
  • Attends and fully participates in all employee orientation, training, meetings, and family events as outlined by the Supervisor
  • Communicates professionally with colleagues, families, partners, and other SPC employees
  • Acts as a positive role model and reflects the values of the organization
  • Able to lift, push, pull up to 30 lbs. in an infant/toddler classroom

The Position
Reporting to the Supervisor of Child Care, the Community Supply Educator is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program.  With a sound knowledge of child development, the Educator will support the development and implementation of programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families and the community, maintain professional relationships, uphold professional standards.

Community Supply Educators are assigned to a “home centre” but will be required to supply at other locations as required.  Shifts/schedules are coordinated through the supervisor of the home centre.   List of home centres:

  • Pickering “home centre” locations – Altona Forest, Claremont, Highbush, Valley Farm
  • Ajax “home centre” locations – Applecroft, Cadarackque, Lincoln Alexander, Roland Michener
  • Whitby “home centre” locations – Brooklin Village, Glen Dhu, John Dryden, Ormiston, Sinclair
  • Oshawa “home centre” locations – Elsie MacGill, Stephen Saywell

  • Provides direct supervision, and ensure the safety of children daily
  • Builds rapport and manages group behaviour to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for all children
